Maybe it’s genetic. For as long as Joan Colangelo can remember, her family has had a love affair with design. Her parents instilled in her a fascination with antiques and architecture, and she has since passed along that same passion to her daughter, Krissie Brubaker.
After decades of dreaming (starting when Krissie was just a young girl) and careful planning, this mother-daughter design team finally opened their home furnishings shop, Trouvé (troo-vey), in Phoenix in 2003.

Meaning "found" in French, Trouvé offers shoppers a vibrant mix of antiques, gifts, lighting, and garden accessories. "We search for quality antiques and attempt to present everything beautifully, so that the layout flows as if it is a composition on a canvas," says Joan.
That includes objects they’ve found on their trips to France: an 18th-century concertina table made of pine and beechwood plucked from a favorite shop near Avignon, a Louis XV giltwood console with butterscotch marble top discovered at an antiques show under the Eiffel Tower, a hand-painted mirror with a 1791 inscription on the back that Joan stumbled upon in the South of France.
They’ve returned with so many beloved objects, in fact, that they opened a second location in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California, in April, 2008. "It seemed natural to continue doing what we love in such a beautiful setting," says Joan.
Trouvé is located at 4225 E. Camelback Road in Phoenix, and at San Carlos and Sixth Avenue in Carmel-by-the-Sea, California. Call 866/730-9777 for the Phoenix location, 831/625-9777 for Carmel-by-the-Sea, or visit trouvehome.com.
