Bedtime Confessions: Marie Flanigan

Produced by Clara Haneberg

My nighttime ritual includes: Putting my son to bed and enjoying a few moments of peace and quiet with my husband. He makes the best hot tea in the world and I sip on that while we watch our favorite shows or read until it’s time to hit the hay.

My favorite childhood bedtime story was…  "The Giving Tree by Shel Silverstein."  I loved everything Shel Silverstein and I can still recite some of his poems from memory.

When I can’t sleep I… design, and I find it’s often a time when I get my best work done. I love the quiet of the night and very early morning when the rest of the world is still asleep and there’s nothing to distract me from the task at hand.

My childhood bedroom looked like: A mixture of all things New Kids on the Block and Strawberry Shortcake—I know, so chic. But nothing stayed around for long—my bedroom was a place where I could experiment with style and I enjoyed changing things up!

My current bedroom looks like:

My go-to bedtime snack is: Yogurt. Chobani Flip Cups FTW.

I am a: stomach, side, or back- sleeper. Side sleeper. Especially now that I’m 7 months pregnant and it’s kind of my only option.

T.V. in bed? If so, what’s on? No T.V., per se, but we do enjoy Netflix on our iPad! We love movies and our latest fave is About Time

Which Jimmy: Kimmel or Fallon? If my eyes are still open, Fallon. Those musical improv skits are hilarious.

Pets in bed? Nope! Just a squirmy 3-year-old—does that count?

My bedtime wardrobe consists of: My husband’s t-shirts.

What’s your stance on earplugs and eye-masks? A luxury my former self might have enjoyed before that squirmy 3-year-old entered my life. :)

Fill in the blank: I sleep ________ on planes. Like a baby

I prefer to sleep…  snuggled up with my family. Hubby is always number one, but, most nights, we hear the pitter patter of two little feet coming into our room and you’ll never see me turn those snuggles away!

My duvet and bed linens are… a soft Italian linen that make me feel like I’m sleeping on a cloud.

What’s on your nightstand? Photos of my family, the most gorgeous antique lamps fashioned from water jugs that I found at a local antique store here in Houston, and the books I’m currently reading: Beauty at Home: Aerin Lauder, The Entrepreneur Roller Coaster by Darren Hardy, and Building Better Families by Matthew Kelly, and I highly recommend all three!

My bedtime is at approximately: 10:30.

I aim for ___ hours of sleep each night:  6-7

Are you an early riser, or do you prefer to sleep in? Let’s just say that I’m normally on my second cup of coffee by the time the rooster crows.
