Bedtime Confessions: Corey Damen Jenkins

Produced by Clara Haneberg

My nighttime ritual includes: Devouring a cup of 0% Fage Yogurt mashed up with two 90 calorie Fiber One brownies—and watching world madness unfold on CNN and MSNBC News.

My favorite childhood bedtime story was... My mom used to read to me from My Book Of Bible Stories. Every. Single. Night. So much so that I actually memorized the lessons by heart!

When I can't sleep I... Ruminate! Endless rumination is my biggest downfall and I’ve trained my mind to not believe all the terrible things I tell myself late at night. Usually I get up and watch more MSNBC to break the cycle.

My childhood bedroom looked like: Classic 1970s fanfare, complete with wood paneling and shag carpeting! How far we’ve come.

My go-to bedtime snack is: Gratuitous helpings of 90 calorie Fiber One brownies! Did I mention they’re only 90 calories?

I am a: stomach, side, or back- sleeper. I start out on my stomach, but I wake up on my back. Weird much? I do wonder what my body does in between.

T.V. in bed? If so, what's on?  I seem to only watch TV in bed when I’m staying in a hotel somewhere. Which is often. And of course, I’ve got CNN or MSNBC on the tube. Can you tell I’m a real politics junkie?

Which Jimmy: Kimmel or Fallon? Jimmy Kimmel all day every day. His beard is everything.

Pets in bed? I wish! I was born to cuddle! I do have two Egyptian Maus but they’re so snobby and they refuse to sleep with me. They’d rather watch me coldly in the dark while I ruminate.

My bedtime wardrobe consists of: The Emperor has no clothes. *wink*

What's your stance on earplugs and eye-masks? I’m always afraid to wear earplugs for fear I won’t hear the alarm go off.

Fill in the blank: I sleep _________ on planes. I sleep with rolling-head syndrome on planes.

My duvet and bed linens are... Silk bed linens are the next best thing to divinity.

What's on your nightstand? I keep my Sketchbook and a pen on my nightstand. Often my most interesting and unusual design concepts come to me via erratic dreaming! Over the years I’ve trained myself to break free from dream sequences to quickly jot down or draw an idea before trailing off to sleep again.

My bedtime is at approximately: I work between 75 and 90 hours a week, so my bedtime is usually well after 2 a.m. (yes, I’m crazy but I’m a Creative and I own it).

I aim for ___ hours of sleep each night: 6-8 hours of sleep per night is my goal. Our firm opens at 9 a.m. but my staff knows not to expect me until after 10.

Are you an early riser, or do you prefer to sleep in? I prefer to sleep in. But if I *have to* get up earlier than 8 a.m. do not speak to me until I’m on cup number 3!
