Bedtime Confessions: Brian Patrick Flynn

Produced by Clara Haneberg

My nighttime ritual includes: watching documentaries about Antarctica on my laptop from bed until House Hunters International comes on, and then I switch it to Watch What Happens! LIVE for reality TV chatter, then just as that ends I finally fall asleep.

My favorite childhood bedtime story was… TIE: "The Pokey Little Puppy" and "Harold & the Purple Crayon."

When I can’t sleep I… take a super hot shower in the middle of the night, then I change rooms to see if that helps and if it doesn't I just watch reruns of the Golden Girls and then go to the home improvement store at 6am when it opens and play with paint colors. Wow, that sounds real strange but, oh well, I guess it makes me more original?

My childhood bedroom looked like: Classic 1990s minimalist grey and blue-grey low profile upholstered beds, preppy wallpaper, framed posters of INXS, pickled oak casegoods, tons of CDs everywhere and lava lamps which were apparently a thing at the time.

My go-to bedtime snack is: the most childish cereal possible: Cap'N Crunch, Lucky Charms, or even Golden Grahams. It's so weird but that's what I crave if I stay up too late and want something snack-ish after 9pm.

I am a: stomach, side, or back- sleeper. I'm a side sleeper but so is my dog Gidget and she could constantly pushes into me until I'm almost at the edge of the bed which is bizarre because she is a small dog and I am a 6'5 human.

T.V. in bed? If so, what’s on? ALWAYS. I will always have a tv in the master bedroom. I usually watch documentaries on the arctic and Antarctic, but aside from that: The Real Housewives of New York, The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills, Riverdale [a teen drama that's a modernized version of the Archie comics but with a murderous, high fashion twist], House Hunters International, and any shows where people shop for beach houses or cabins.

Which Jimmy: Kimmel or Fallon? Fallon! I am absolutely obsessed with the games he gets his guests to play, especially Wheel of Musical Impressions.

Pets in bed? Yes yes yes. I love falling asleep with my dogs Gidget and Linus at the edge of the bed and also waking up to their little weird dog yawns.

My bedtime wardrobe consists of: A matching red and black flannel pajama set, old school like 1950s sitcom style.

What’s your stance on earplugs and eye-masks? Neither ear plugs nor eye masks work for me. Like, ever.

Fill in the blank: I sleep _________ on planes. SOMETIMES. I'm on planes once or twice weekly and I've only fallen asleep twice and that was because I had the business class bed situation and that was amazing although I only slept about 45 minutes of every hour because it just doesn't feel natural. Overall I would say I sleep quite terribly on planes.

I prefer to sleep… with the windows wide open and with a vintage table top fan blowing.

My duvet and bed linens are… a mix of navy and white gingham from Serena and lily and a duvet from restoration hardware.

What’s on your nightstand? Interior design books, big headphones, framed photos of my better half and I gallivanting all over Europe, and maidenhair ferns and house plants.

My bedtime is at approximately: 11:10 p.m. almost every night of the week.

I aim for ___ hours of sleep each night: 7 and I usually get it!

Are you an early riser, or do you prefer to sleep in? Super early. Half of the year I find myself in my car headed to Starbucks or to breakfast before or around 6am.
