Hot List: Super Sinks

Up the style quotient with a stylish new sink

Written by Sally Finder Weepie

Farmhouse style has a legion of fans in 2018. And with its new Farmstead sink, Kohler has re-imagined the traditional apron-front model by giving the much-loved style a clean, contemporary update. It's a statement piece with all the attributes of a workhorse, bringing both utility and style to the kitchen. This new Farmstead sink can be installed wall-mount with legs or top-mount with custom cabinetry, giving it the look of a unique, hand-constructed piece of furniture. At 45 inches long, the sink is generously proportioned to accommodate large pots and pans and included in the list price are seven different accessories—a walnut cutting board, a multipurpose grate, a utility rack, a utility rack with soaking cup, left and right basin racks, and a towel bar—to make it even more functional and versatile.

Expanding on its acclaimed Artist Edition sinks, Kohler has introduced two stunning stone sinks that act as functional works of art for the bathroom. Kensho sinks offer modern forms inspired by nature and minimalist designs influenced by Eastern motifs and textile patterns. Kensho consist of two sinks styles: The Round Vessel and the 28-inch Trough-style sink features a pattern—etched into the stone’s surface—inspired by Japanese Sashiko kimonos, which are created through a form of decorative reinforcement stitching. The etching on each style appears almost draped over the vessel like a veil; the result is delicately lovely and quietly remarkable. Both sink styles are offered with two material options: charcoal Grey Foussana as well as snowy white Biancone limestone.

The new Culinario Sink by Rohl utilizes a unique sloped sink base combined with an offset drain to transform a problem area into the ultimate in functionality. The uniquely sloped sink floor adds ergonomic functionality, and more efficient use of space. You can put two 35-quart bins under the sink—one for trash and one for recycling. It also allows for a dedicated plumbing cabinet, with ample room to organize cleaning supplies. And, with the double bowl option, there is room to add custom drawers to hold dish towels, linens, plastic wrap, spices, or cutlery. The Culinario Sink can be installed over standard domestic and European standard cabinet construction—no special cabinets or custom work required. It also provides design flexibility to kitchen layouts, especially in corners and islands with effective use of space below sink.
