Add 1-1/2 shots of Cointreau. This is the sweetness in the drink, and while triple sec is often used, Martin gives ‘ritas a touch of class by using this fine French, orange-based liqueur.
Then add 1-1/2 shots of sour mix. Martin advises using freshly squeezed lime juice, which he hand-squeezes several times a day and stores in a small plastic bottle that is kept refrigerated. Some margarita mavens advise using only Key Limes, but that is just personal preference.
Add 1/2 shot of simple syrup. This ‘kills’ the alcohol burn and makes a smoother cocktail
