"When setting a table, I love mixing modern table settings with pieces that have a more traditional, layered look," says designer Janice Barta of LA-based Barta Interiors. "I always try elements and select items from different resources to create a more curated festive setting."

Including organic elements is another great way to nod to fall when pulling together your tablescape. Barta often calls on stems plucked from the yard to lend a sense of place and a feel of nature. Mix in mini pumpkins and pinecones for more seasonal flair, and consider the grounding effect of wood pieces like these chargers.

Here, stems and blooms take center stage in a texture-rich setting that Barta built on a ground of woven placemats. Hydrangeas are a great base for a fall floral arrangement. Complement the beauty of their blooms with berries and bits of greenery.
Easy-care succulents are another of Barta's go-to picks for the table. Mix and match pots and dishes of your favorite succulents as a fun alternative to a floral centerpiece. Maybe even consider sending them home with guests as a lovely reminder of the gathering. The greens of the plants make the perfect neutral backdrop for energetic tabletop pieces like these colorful woven placemats. Black and gold tones keep it classic, while a wooden napkin ring adds to the organic vibe.
