Tennessee kitchen designer Jeanie Johnson worked long-distance to lay out and detail the kitchen. “Dee wanted Cape Cod style with an edge,” says Johnson, who put an upscale polish on period design. Heart-pine knobs accent cream-colored custom cabinets. The vent is nearly hidden above marble shelves behind the range. A richly colored fired-metal sculpture by Tennessee artist Rey Alfonso stands at the far end of the kitchen, behind the upholstered chair.
