One of the beauties of Traditional Home's Oceans 3 Showhouse was the opportunity it provided three young aspiring designers to intern for three of Manhattan's best pros. Each of the established designers was assigned a protégé who either attends or is a new graduate of design school. Designer Eric Cohler's protégé was Arlene Angard, a Venezuela native who practiced as a dentist for several years before following her dream to study design.
"After living in New York, with the cultural mix and energy of the city, I decided to be happy and follow my own dream," says Angard. A recent graduate of the New York School of Interior Design, she says her experience working side by side with Cohler on the showhouse was wonderful.
Cohler designs residential and commercial interiors for an international clientele. He also designs products, including fabric and furniture for Lee Jofa, and lighting for Visual Comfort & Co. He has received numerous design awards from national shelter magazines including Traditional Home. He holds a master's degree in Historic Preservation from Columbia University's School of Architecture and a Certificate in Design from Harvard's Graduate School of Design.
