To serve as backdrop to the tub, Young commissioned a stunning chinoiserie-style mural of art glass and mirrored tiles from Albuquerque tilemaker and artist Erin Adams. “The mural features a pomegranate tree with opalescent art-glass tiles that suggest mother-of-pearl inlay,” says Young.

The mural’s inspiration is a Schumacher chinoiserie wall covering that Young used to decorate two other walls in the shared area. “The wall covering plays into the watery, exotic, feminine look I was after,” he explains. “The paper and the mural that it inspired laid the groundwork for the room’s two palettes—the lighter one in her area and the darker colors in his.” Both palettes are articulated by an inventive use of art glass, Corian solid-surfacing material, and cabinet finishes.
