SAGITTARIUS / November 22 – December 21
Some of our greatest designers, past and present, have the Archer’s always-true aesthetic aim: Elsie DeWolfe, Melanie Kahane, Amy Lau, Campion Platt, Charlotte Moss. The zodiac’s globetrotters, Sagittarians never stay in one place for long, and the trophies from their travels adorn the walls, shelves, and floors of their home.
Although they adore the feeling of homecoming, they keep traditional homes in various places around the world. (Think Brad Pitt and Bette Midler.) The elements of an Archer’s decor will come from far and wide, so no two interiors could ever be the same. But you will notice certain themes: Carefully considered collections (Andrew Carnegie, Henry Clay Frick, and J. Paul Getty were famous Archer art aficionados) will include a quiver of arrow furnishings ranging from the dining room’s arrow-back chairs to that pair of T.H. Robsjohn-Gibbings arrow lamps—not to mention the dartboard in the den! Globes, maps, and bull’s-eye motifs will also hit home (on a doorway molding, a table base, or the comfy seat where they do their armchair traveling), as will anything with an equine theme.
Archers are centaurs, after all—half human and half horse—so be on the lookout for hunting prints, horse-and-hound toile patterns, even, if space permits, a traffic-stopping, life-size horse lamp.
The ideal gift? A new itinerary, of course! So get cracking on Kayak.com, or choose a gift certificate to a well-traveled shopping site such as Indagare or Wanderloot. And anything horsey is sure to please, from a Breyer’s plastic horse for the kiddies to a Rosa Bonheur painting for the grownups.
CAPRICORN / December 22 – January 19
The zodiac’s timeless traditionalist appreciates the trappings of Yuletide: gingerbread houses, holiday greenery, a classic nutcracker, or a festive bowl in which to serve eggnog and mulled wine.
AQUARIUS / January 20 – February 18
For air-sign Aquarians, a pristine atmosphere is a must, making an air purifier a favorite household appliance of those born under this sign. (Hint: A high-tech model such as the Rabbit Air purifier will excite the futuristic Aquarian mind.) Outside, Japanese wind chimes tune in the music of their element.
PISCES / February 19 – March 20
Keep your favorite fish in, on, or near the water with the gift of a seascape, a beach getaway, a boat trip, or any glamorous treasure from the deep. An antique conch shell carved with a cameo is sure to quicken a Pisces’ heart.
ARIES / March 21 – April 19
Gifts of candle snuffers and haute hearth accessories are sure to ignite a flame in this fire sign. Red candle pillars and fresh pineapple—an Aries signature fruit—are always welcome, too.
TAURUS / April 20 – May 20
This sign adores chocolate—the darker and more exotic the better. Earth-loving Bulls also like to be conscientious about cocoa consumption, so you’ll score extra points if your choco-gift is organic and/or fair trade.
