Here are a few of my favorite entertaining spaces that I’ve designed for my clients (and even one just for my family)

My clients and I have one thing in common—we love to entertain! Whether it’s a big family dinner, or a few friends over for wine, or even a cookout with the neighbors, entertaining at home is something we really enjoy!
This big open family room was recently featured in Traditional Home, and I designed it for a large family with kids. It’s the perfect space for them to gather because it has a lot of seating, with plenty of surfaces for drinks and plates. Plus great views of the TV in the built-ins on the left from just about any seat when it’s fall football time.
Turquoise Great Room
Designed for another large family with children, this open-plan room lets the family gather for dinner, TV, board games, or any other fun occasion! And since the kitchen is designed to be a part of the overall space, no one gets left out as they prepare a meal or snacks.
This sophisticated penthouse living room was designed for conversation, and I selected that stunning Aerin cocktail table because it has a unique inset center that works perfectly for drinks and mixers! It gives a whole new meaning to “cocktail” table.
I always create zones in the larger rooms I design to get the most function out of every space, like in this large media room I created for one of my favorite clients! One area is dedicated to a game table that’s perfect for cards or board games with friends. And on the other end of the room, a pair of comfy sofas for movie night.
Sunny Bar Area
Another zone in this same media room includes a refreshment center, with snacks and its own drinks refrigerator. That keeps your guests from having to travel up and down stairs whenever they need a bite or a beverage.
Cheerful Dining Room
A party of six is supposed to be the perfect size for a dinner party, so this dining room is ideal. Plus, dinner parties are much more fun when the details include comfortable chairs, a perfectly shaped oval dining table for conversation, and a bright color to kick the mood into high gear! I’m still crazy about that lavender ceiling I added in for fun. At night it gives the room a lovely glow when light bounces off the crystal chandelier.
When weather permits, the great outdoors are the perfect place for a party, and my clients love this outdoor kitchen I designed for them. With all the chic details, it’s a fabulous location for a wine dinner in the Spring, alfresco BBQs in the summer, or fall football gatherings around the TV over the kitchen bar and the adjoining sitting space with a fireplace and larger TV to the left.
Peppy Pool Deck
At my own home, my new patio and pool area is a great place for my daughter to entertain her friends, or for us to just spend some quality fun-time together with our family and our pups!
When friends or family come over, where’s the one place in your home that they all seem to gather? That’s right—the kitchen! So I created a kitchen for this client that has enough seating to let them congregate comfortably. And if the meal is going to be served buffet-style, there’s plenty of room for everyone to move around the island.
If you have teenagers (and I am very close to having one myself!), it’s great to give them their own space for entertaining their friends. I designed this loft-like area for a client with several teens in her family, and they love having a place to call their own.
The Sidecar, price available upon request from Moore & Giles [1-800-737-0169]
This beautifully crafted bar cart, The Sidecar by Moore and Giles, is a great way to store liquor, glassware, bar tools, and anything else needed to complete your own miniature bar. The cart, made of Virginia black walnut, birch, leather, aluminum, and brass, is wheeled to make sure the party can travel with you. Perfect for drink-lovers without the space for a full bar.
