The designer shares tips for setting a memorable table whatever the ocassion

Produced by Julianne Hilmes Bartlett

Monique Lhuillier might be best known for for her beautiful bridal gowns, but the bridal and fashion designer has also branched out into home decor. The latest on her plate is a new-for-fall collaboration with Pottery Barn.

"My love of flowers and color is at the heart of all my collections. For Fall 2018, I was inspired by the rich purple and vibrant yellow blooms of the tiger orchid and how this sophisticated color combination could be used to create a new elegant look for the changing season,” she says. “Combining rich hues with plenty of texture as well as touches of tortoiseshell and metallics, we created products that will add the perfect amount of warmth and elegance that fall entertaining demands."

With fall and all the gatherings that follow right around the corner, we asked the designer to share her best tips for setting a memorable table for any occasion.

1. Use candlelight

"I love a scattering of multi-level votives, hurricanes, and candlesticks—like these silver tapered candlesticks—across the table for ambience," she says. "Plus, candlelight flatters everyone!"

2. Add a personal touch

Monogrammed napkins add a personalized touch of elegance to any dinner party and are just the right touch of luxury to elevate any occasion.

3. Incorporate flowers

Flowers are so important to a memorable occasion. Incorporating varying sizes of floral arrangements—like these tiger orchids—in unique containers down the center of your table will add visual interest and make guests feel special.

4. Mix and match

"Creating unexpected glassware combinations is one of my favorite ways to dress up a table," she says. Combine casual colored glassware with formal cut crystal stemware for a festive change of pace.
