Catherine Martin for Mokum
Oscar Award-winning designer Catherine Martin made her name creating wonderfully outlandish sets to match her husband’s equally outlandish films. Baz Luhrmann is known for his visually astonishing films, thanks in large part to Martin’s work. Martin debuted Majorelle in February. It features a range of fabrics and wallpapers inspired by her admiration for Eastern artisans. This is her fourth collection with Mokum, each more decadent than the last.
Fresh off their first opening in America this month, the duo behind DeMuro Das is making a splash. The Capital Center Table, part of their first collection, stuns with a mesmerizing green zebra agate top, supported by bronze legs. The table is a modern interpretation of deco brilliance.
SMEG + Dolce and Gabbana
Powerhouse brand SMEG teamed up with Italian luxury brand Dolce and Gabbana to create a unique and vibrant collection of kitchen goods. Inspired by the vignettes of traditional Italian design and art, this collection is dubbed “Sicily my Love.” The collection’s first run is limited, with only a few products available at Williams Sonoma and Neiman Marcus. The rest of the collection is set to roll out later this year.
Fabric & Steel
Brooklyn-based designer Michele Dopp takes inspiration from everywhere—but her latest collection, Forms, is inspired by the city she calls home. With a distinct eye for architecture and function, Dopp’s fabrics feel both organic and totally structured. Our personal favorite is the Surface fabric in Smolder—the perfect mix of masculine and feminine. (Shown on the left)
The Amalfi Ottoman is playful, yet elegant. Shown here in a delicious blue velvet, the ottoman is one of the more recent launches by beloved furniture maker Julian Chichester. The form is a sister piece of his popular sofa of the same name.
