Classicism is as important to the room’s design as the Far East influence. The floor plan features formal symmetry, with the his-and-her areas extending off the center in exactly the same size and shape. Other classical features include ogee moldings, columns, and an X motif. "The X motif of the mullions on the windows, cabinets, and the woman’s bath gives continuity to the design," Young says. It also provides an opportunity for creative backing. For example, the mullions of the clerestory windows are backed with mirrors for "a shimmery effect," says the designer.
"For her area, I was going for a to-the-nines dressing table and a second tub where she could bathe privately," says Young. Encrusted with mirrors, the woman’s dressing table is high-glam; Philippe Starck’s clear Louis "Ghost" chair adds to the effect.
