Colorful Showhouse Rooms

We're kicking off the 2015 Showhouse Tour with a look at some delightfully colorful showhouse spaces

From the Editors of Traditional Home
  • John Bessler

Showhouses are full of color inspiration. Designers get to play with color in fun, fresh ways as they decorate their spaces. In honor of our 2015 Showhouse Tour—kicking off this weekend!—here’s a look at showhouse rooms with fabulous color.

Designer Heidi Wostbrock opted for a cheerful yellow color in her space at the Designer Showhouse of New Jersey. Pink and green accent colors are a nod to the room’s garden views. The white settee and window treatment supply calm contrast against the room’s bold walls

    Creamy Yellow Bedroom

A dreamy, creamy color from Pratt & Lambert adorns the walls in the master suite of the Napa Valley Showhouse. From the upholstered headboard and bedding to the carpet and walls, the palette is pale and soothing. Says designer Melanie Turner, “There was a desire to create beauty and comfort using a style that is both rural and refined, just like the Napa Valley itself.”

    Warm Yellow Accent

In the kitchen, a yellow accent wall painted Pratt & Lambert’s “Olivette” provides subtle warmth. The color provides contrast against the reclaimed wine cabinet stocked with colorful sundries.

“It exudes a feeling of welcome,” designer Anna Maria Mannarino says of the sun-filled morning room. The sofa’s patterned pillows inspired the turquoise and cream accents and chartreuse walls.

    Soft Living Room

Spirited yet restful, welcoming yet grand, Skye Kirby Westcott and Nancy Galasso’s great room for Lillian August is a study in contrasts. With its grand proportions, scale and warmth are key elements. The walls were painted with Pratt & Lambert’s “Mirage Gray,” which provides just the whisper of color to keep the soaring space from feeling cold.

    Lovely Light Blue

We love the idea of adding color to the ceiling, especially when that color is as beautiful as the light blue Charlotte Moss used in this bedroom at New York City’s Holiday House. Walls painted in an off-white semigloss let colorful floral-motif fabrics and an eclectic mix of modern artwork and fashion photography do the talking while the ceiling ties it all together.

    Light Blue Guest Suite

Playing off the cool blues of the showhouse pool, designer Jennifer McConnell chose a water-inspired scheme for this guest suite. A blue-and-white palette sets the watery tone. White beadboard and ceiling beams provide lovely contrast against the airy blue walls and coffered panels.

    Dramatic Living Area

Designer Tricia Huntley’s room in New York City’s Holiday House is filled with striking contrasts. Pratt & Lambert’s “Purple Nite” on the walls infuses the room with drama. Ethereal floor-length sheers soften the dark color. Cream-colored sectional sofas and area rug pop against the black-stained floor.
