Design/Lifestyle Editor Jenny Bradley writes:
Robin Bergland didn't expect to end up in Nantucket. The longtime New Yorker was on the idyllic island for a two-week vacation in 1995 and just happened to meet the man she would marry.
A year later, she was living on the island full-time and running a wedding-planning business out of her basement. Today that business has evolved into Trillium, a charming tabletop-and-accessories boutique located on Centre Street-a tranquil little stretch of road known as "Petticoat Row" for the 19th-century women merchants (mainly whaling "widows" whose husbands were at sea) who sold their wares there.

"What I love about being on this street is that most of the shops are still owned by women," says Robin. "Everyone really supports one another."
While Trillium's exterior remains the same as it has for 150 years, the light-filled interior has been customized to house Robin's collection of tableware and accessories. Items range from handblown glass made in Brooklyn to refined ceramics and glassware from Parisian artist Muriel Grateau, which are pictured here. (Trillium is one of only two U.S. stores to carry Grateau's pieces.)
With its soft pale green walls, botanical prints, and boldly colored accessories, Trillium mirrors the summer ambience of the island. "I'm a color fanatic, and I love abundance," says Robin. "My philosophy is: If you're going to do it, go all the way!"
Trillium is located at 17 Centre Street, Nantucket, Massachusetts. Visit trilliumnantucket.com or call 508/228-4450.
