Funky Fusion

Contemporary furniture is fused with patterned fabrics and upbeat artwork in this Chinese New Year themed room. A standout against the colorful red walls is the beautiful mantel, original to the home.

Enter Extraordinary

This room in the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse was already extraordinary thanks to the existing wood paneling and moldings along the room’s perimeter. Speaking of extraordinary, the gorgeously carved mantel is also original to the house.

Glamorous Living Room

With intricate detailing on the mantel, a velvet-covered chaise, and a chandelier that’s nearly 5 feet wide and 6 feet tall, this living room is all about glamour.

Pretty Molding

Uncommonly pretty architectural details can be seen on the crown molding in this conservatory as well as on the mantel. Hushed neutral hues lend a calm, earthy appeal.

Simply Special

A great fireplace makes a room look special. The homeowners warmed up this hearth with sponge painting that looks like smoke (on the overmantel and crown molding).

Restful Guest Room

In a lavishly appointed guest bedroom, a mantel with beautiful molding is right at home.

Robust Presence

A gray-and-white marble fireplace surround creates a robust presence in the library Frank Ponterio designed for the Lake Forest Showhouse.

Floral Fantasy

Whimsy abounds in this “fantasia of chinoiserie,” as designer Miles Redd refers to it. The floral forms found throughout the room are replicated on the carved mantel.

Singing Silver

In a 1922 Georgian-style home, the original stone fireplace with pretty architectural details sings in a room accented with silver.

Cheerful Cherry

In this sprawling dining room, a cherry red wall is an arresting contrast to the gray semigloss finish of the mantel and moldings.

Serene Bedroom

An incredible antique black marble mantel anchors a serene master bedroom in this California home.

Really Pretty Revival

Elegant details, like those on the mantel, prevail throughout this 1928 Mediterranean revival.

Intricate and Elegant

Intricate plasterwork adorns the walls as well as the mantel in this elegantly themed room.

Wooden Wonder

An antique carved wood mantel settles in next to reclaimed cypress doors that cover the library walls in Sela Ward’s home.

Elegant Repose

Befitting the elegant, restful theme of Eileen Kathryn Boyd’s room is this beautiful white mantel – original to the home.

Punchy Pizazz

Subtle details give this living room pizazz, from the bright fuchsia bench and striking chandelier to the stately mantel.

Balanced Beauty

Casual and formal strike a balance in this multi-purpose dining room. A painted green fireplace surround depicts ships at sea while antlers and a mirror with gold-leaf finish rest above the gorgeous mantel.

Nice and Neutral

White walls and an intricately carved limestone fireplace ground the living room’s neutral palette.

At Attention

In a formal sitting room, a glamorous black-and-white marble fireplace demands attention.

Magnificent Molding

Wonderful molding details and a striking broken pediment fireplace overmantel are highlighted by soft grays.

Carved Beauty

A gorgeous carved mantel and the beams overhead hint at the history of this Oyster Bay cottage. (George Washington slept here once!)

Visual Feast

“Guests stay in a dining room for a long time—sometimes up to four hours,” says designer Ellie Cullman, “so there needs to be plenty of interesting visuals.” Case in point: grand architecture on the fireplace and tongue-in-cheek art pieces scattered throughout the room she designed for the Kips Bay Decorator Showhouse.
