Color-Happy Beach House

What do you do with a hot-pink ramshackle ranch house complete with skunks living in the attic? If said house is for sale and happens to be located on prime oceanfront property on Florida’s Atlantic Coast, you do what Connie and Chris Nast did: Snap it up, tear it down, and—staying within the original footprint—start all over again.

  • Lighthearted Foyer

The foyer greets with happy-you’re-here colors, a handmade ship, and a quirky painted duck. Speert designed the awning-stripe stair runner.

  • Living Room

The living room beckons with bamboo-covered walls, comfortable seating (upholstered in stain-repellent fabrics), and seashore-related accessories. The artwork above the sofa is actually two horizontal canvases hung tightly together.

  • Living Room from Dining Area

A view from the dining area shows hints of tropical pink in the living room, which crescendo into the kitchen.

  • Living Room Details

A mirror framed in seashells brings the beach inside.

  • Dining Area

New chairs in the dining area are upholstered in coral fabric to tie in with the color of the adjoining kitchen. The farm table is a piece that Connie has owned for years; the candle-powered iron chandelier is new.

  • Cottagey Kitchen

To keep the kitchen in a cottage frame of mind, all countertops (except the stone around the sink) are white-painted wood. Shelves on either side of the range are stocked with flamingos found online and cookbooks.

  • Exterior

With its multiple French doors and expansive terrace, the back of Connie and Chris Nast’s home offers front-row views of the beach and the Atlantic Ocean beyond.

  • Portrait

Chris and Connie relax on the steps of their beach home.

  • Patio

Nestled between the house and the garage (where Chris keeps his collection of classic cars) is a cozy sitting area used by the Nasts when it’s too windy on the beach.

  • Master Bedroom

Walls the color of palm fronds add a tropical touch in the master bedroom. Loved by Connie because it’s ultrafeminine, the room charms with a Wilton carpet strewn with roses, floral prints by a local artist, and a collection of pottery plates.

All items on the dresser—except the lamp and the vase—and the mirror above it are fortuitous online finds.
