Behr Announces First-Ever Color of the Year and Launches New Trends Color Palette

We kick off our 2018 color forecast with Behr’s big news

Written and produced by Clara Haneberg

Meet “In the Moment,” Behr’s first-ever color of the year. The calming hue—a balanced mix of blue, green, and gray—was influenced by the concept of mindful living. “It’s about using color with intent,” says Erika Woelfel, Behr’s vice president of color and creative services. The crisp, soothing hue “speaks to our society’s desire to disconnect and be present,” she says.

The versatile color looks great indoors and out—note the welcoming front door and light-filled niche. “I can see it on a porch ceiling or with white cabinets in a kitchen,” Woelfel says.

In addition to the special color announcement, Behr also released a palette of 20 trend colors for 2018. Keeping to the concept of mindful living, the fresh palette boasts barley-there hues, as well as bold and brights. We share some of our favorites from the palette:

“Civara”

This deep, warm orange is “radiant and charismatic, carrying notes from the Orient.” Give second life to an old chest with a fresh coat of this rich hue.

“Soul Search”

This refreshing jewel tone is described as a “dark blue inspired by coastal palettes.” The adventurous color would bring instant flair to kitchen cabinets or a focal-point wall.

“Kombucha”

“Soft gold brings joy to the inner self,” and acts a perfect neutral for nearly any wall. We love how it makes molding and architectural details pop!

“Unplugged”

“Protective and complex,” this dark brown hue has masculine appeal. We picture it in a lounge or library.

“Life is Good”

Comfortably familiar, the upbeat blend of orange and yellow “produces a warming effect.” Drench the walls of an entry or gathering space in the energetic color.

“Wabi-Sabi”

“An easy-going, versatile green projects history and character.” Try the verdant tone in a kitchen or guest bedroom.

“Positively Pink”

This soft but still perky shade of pink “balances between rose and apricot.” We think the color is perfect for a nursery or powder room.
