This Is Us Actress Susan Kelechi Watson’s Revamped L.A. Abode

The TV star partnered with HomeGoods to create her home with Caribbean vibe

Actress Susan Kelechi Watson—Beth on NBC’s fan favorite, This Is Us—has always been a color lover. As a nod to her Caribbean culture, she incorporated pops of orange, yellow, and teal throughout her Los Angeles pad. “I wanted my home to feel peaceful, but still energized and creative,” she says.

Watson teamed up with HomeGoods to bring her “Afrocentric chic meets minimalistic glam” design vision to life. “At HomeGoods I can find those items that feel special,” she says. Her taste is vastly different from her character’s. “Don’t get me wrong, Beth shares a big, beautiful home with Randall. But, I like unique things.”

A desk chair with yellow upholstery greets visitors in the guest bedroom. “It’s fun and welcoming with lots of texture,” Watson says—note the patterned rug, wood accents, and pom-pom throw. The bedroom sets the tone for the rest of the California home.

A proponent of potlucks, Watson admits she isn’t the biggest cook. “I like to order in and have people over,” she says. Serving pieces from HomeGoods play a starring role in her tablescapes.

A wood-carved cabinet displays potted plants and extra glassware.

In the same open space as the dining room, perches the perfect hair-and-makeup station. Here, the TV star can kick back in the relaxation of her home while getting ready for filming and red-carpet appearances. Eclectic lamps provide ample lighting. A large mirror with an intricate frame reflects the kitchen.

The vibrant personality toned things down in the master bedroom. “I can be pretty stark sometimes,” Watson says. “I knew I wanted this room to be airy and light.” Lavender drapes and a mahogany chest team with nubby bed linens and a sumptuous rug to complete the refined retreat.

Midcentury silhouettes reign supreme in the actress’ living room. A “bold, antique-y rug” grounds the space while sculptural bookcases display hardbacks, vases, and objects. The sprawling sofa pulls up to a wood coffee table with hairpin legs. The orange lounge chair affords another burst of bold color. “It’s a conversation-starter,” Watson says.

“Hey, girl, hey!” The wet bar is always well-stocked for friends. Watson’s go-to drink to serve guests: Moscow mules. While on the topic of cocktails, we took the opportunity to ask Watson about any teasers she could share on the upcoming third season of NBC’s This Is Us. “The writers don’t tell me anything,” she explains, “but, we know we will all be back—which is exciting.” Cheers to that!
