In a high-rise apartment near Rice Village in Houston, designer and blogger Paloma Contreras worked her magic to create an everyday retreat with classic style. Her client, a physician new to the area, was searching for a spot in the city where he could just as easily unwind from a long day as he could host guests comfortably. The result: a tailored loft that blends timeless style with masculine appeal.
Plenty of seating in the main living and dining area was key, as Contreras' client likes to entertain. A sectional and two leather chairs provide places to perch in the conversation area. An abstract triptych above the sectional shakes up the timeless pieces.
"We used a little less color and pattern than usual," Contreras says of the space, "but emphasized the use of various textures for a rich, layered look." Floating shelves and framed photographs carry the eyes up the wall. The classic Barcelona chair anchors one corner of the living room.
Framed photography reflects an interest in travel, science, and geometry. "Art is so personal," Contreras says, "It's important to us that our clients really love the pieces hanging in their homes."
In the master bedroom, linens in light blue, gray, and gold are subdued and sophisticated.
Pleasing symmetry plays out at the foot of the bed, where a pair of lamps and blue velvet ottomans neatly frame a round mirror.
