Design on a Dime!
We are proud to again sponsor Design on a Dime, a fantastic fundraiser benefitting Housing Works, which is an organization working to end AIDS and homelessness. More than 50 top designers have created vignettes and every item in the vignettes – including new housewares, furniture, and linens – are for sale at 50-70% off retail prices. Proceeds of sales benefit a new housing project in Brooklyn which will provide a home for previously homeless adults living with HIV/AIDS.
Suysel de Pedro Cunningham and Anne Maxwell Foster of Tilton Fenwick (one of our 20 New Traditionals) designed a vignette for us (sneak peek above).
The opening reception tonight is completely sold out, which is great because the event is a fundraiser, and the largest crowd ever is expected. But the sale will be open to the public, for free, through Saturday night:
Friday, May 06, 2011 – Saturday, May 07, 2011 10am-6pm
Metropolitan Pavilion, 125 W. 18th St. (btwn. 6th & 7th Ave.) New York, NY
If you’re in Manhattan this weekend, shop these spectacular rooms and support a wonderful cause!

give cancer the pink slip
After losing close friend Nina Hyde, a fashion editor at the Washington Post, to breast cancer in 1990, Ralph Lauren became committed to fighting the disease. His Polo Ralph Lauren Foundation’s Pink Pony Fund supports programs for cancer screening and early diagnosis, treatment, and research. Year round, 10% of Pink Pony collection sales benefit the fund.
2010 marks the 10th year of the Pink Pony collection and in honor of its anniversary four pink limited edition items were designed, including an alligator Ricky 33 bag and the Ralph Lauren Stirrup timepiece, which—with its alligator strap and row of diamonds—would contribute a sizeable donation.
Other items available include women’s and children’s wear, personal accessories, and some stunning home accessories. I especially love the Pink Pony shagreen jewelry box, and we’ll be featuring the enamel frames in our upcoming November issue (which will be out any day now).
In addition to the Pink Pony items, Ralph Lauren has partnered with Charity Buzz to auction over 300 amazing lots: apparel, exclusive vacations, chances to meet celebrities, and of course, furniture and decorative accessories. Bid now through October 21—100% of the net proceeds benefits the Pink Pony Fund.
Visit Ralphlauren.com/pinkpony for Pink Pony items and a link to the auction, and help fund the research so we can eradicate cancer.
A once-in-a-lifetime, priceless opportunity to spend four days and three nights for you and up to three guests at Ralph Lauren’s personal Jamaican paradise, above, is just one of the items being auctioned.

Going SoLo
Not having been to San Diego since I was a teenager (and suffice it to say, that was more than just a couple of years ago), I had no idea what to expect design-wise when I made my way there a few weeks back for a shoot.
Knowing I’m always on the prowl for beautiful shop locations for the magazine, a friend suggested I check out the Cedros Avenue Design District in Solana Beach. The shops were wonderful, and varied—quaint garden shops, chic clothing boutiques, coffee shops…you name it.
