Diary of a Mad Renovator: Team Building

No matter the project, no matter the challenge, never underestimate the power of having the right team in place. Our renovation project has been three years in the making, and I am just now learning how much easier things can be with the right people involved.  

You might recall that to my complete and utter dismay, we recently had to fire our contractor. Well, I am overjoyed to announce that with our new contractor, Adam Kapelanski on board, our beach home will be complete in three weeks! Yes, I said three weeks. Not to mention that we handed Adam three pages of details that needed finishing—including painting the entire house—so it really goes to show that when you assemble the right team the work can actually feel effortless.  

Sometimes you have to go through a lot of trial and error to find the right people, but when you do—the budget is agreed upon up front, there is no drama, no approved work orders, no difficult conversations, and most importantly no problems—it’s truly a beautiful thing.

This week’s takeaway: Always get references, ask trusted friends and associates for recommendations, exhaust your resources and don’t settle. Trust me, you will be saving yourself immeasurable time, aggravation and money.
